Intex Pool Base

by Jeff
(Albany, GA)

I am installing a 24' x 52" Metal Frame Intex Pool. Their manual says not to use sand as a base because of potential shifting. I have tilled the site to remove grass and loosen the soil for leveling. I need to build up one side for leveling. Should I use sand or clean field dirt? If I use sand do I need to sand the entire base and how much for a 24' pool?

Thanks, Jeff

Hi Jeff. I use a little sand under Intex pools, to cushion the bottom, but not for leveling. I would level the ground with dirt and pack it down good. You can then just use a ground cloth over the dirt or you could cover the area with an inch or so of sand.

A twenty four foot pool would probably use about 3 tons of sand.

LEVELING
by: Jeff

How do you go about leveling a 24' circle? Do I take 2 12' 2x4s and nail them together to get a 24' straight edge?

Hi. I use a laser level. Transits can be rented, the 2 x 4 and carpenters level system works and water levels work.

Water levels are a very long clear hose partially filled with water. They are inexpensive but very accurate.
