Lomart Pool Parts

by Jon Foster
(White Lake, Michigan)

We were given an older above ground Lomart pool (round 18'x48"). Several of the vertical posts are beyond saving and all of the foot plates should be replaced etc. But the parts to get this pool usable again are beginning to add up to a lot more than we can/should spend on it. If I could make some of my own replacement parts, I could save a ton of cash. I was thinking about making my own foot plates and using pressure treated 4x4's to replace all the posts. My question is, would this be a wise decision? For the most part it looks like the vertical posts only carry a load from the top rail. The foot plates look like they hold the load for the posts and offer a very limited amount of reinforcement for the bottom track the pool wall sits in. The bottom rail doesn't even have any fasteners to keep it in place so I'm sure there's no horizontal load to be concerned with at the foot plates. The time and materials to make these items would be far less than buying new replacement parts if we can even find everything (we've been looking for several days).

Thanks, Jon

Hi Jon. Lomart and Doughboy are made by the same company and in many cases have similar or identical parts. Finding a dealer for either brand may be of help with ordering parts. Footplates can be made out of most anything and it is possible that one of these sites may have something you could easily adapt to your pool.

You are very right about the structural importance of these parts. A pool that is level and round can stay up just fine without uprights and top rails. The bottom connectors are just to hold the bottom rails together, and in most cases, a place to attach the uprights.

I see nothing wrong with your plan for making the pool parts. I know it can be done and it sounds like you have some good ideas.
