Tear in Pool Material

by Rachel
(Israel)

Hi if you could help me it would be great. We have a Bestway above ground pool. There is a gushing leak and a tear.

We do not want to have to drain the whole pool and refill as water is expensive and limited in Israel. Is there any way of fixing the leak without emptying the pool? Rachel

Hi Rachel. A large tear in a vinyl liner will usually require the pool to be drained before it can be properly repaired. Smaller holes and tears can be patched underwater. You would need a vinyl repair kit.

I prefer to use actual vinyl for my patches as opposed to the patch material that comes with most patch kits. You may have saved the vinyl that was cut out of the skimmer opening when the liner was installed, this is perfect for patches.

Larger holes that are loosing water fast can be slowed down by placing a plastic garbage bag over them. This will give you time to round up a patch kit and make the repairs.
